Bake Day – Heating the Oven

Gentle warming begins 24 hours before lighting the fire. The lighting of the infernal flame. Jeff Sigrist photo of the early morning start-up. The small warming fire. It is gradually moved to the rear of the oven. The big burn continues. The oven chamber filled with wood. The draft door deflecting smoke up the chimney. In front is the insulated bake door. The bed of coals near the end of the burn. Scraping out the coals into the ash pit. Starting oven temperature after coals are removed.
